New Year, Mourning, Features, Scripture, and Dance

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 3, 2013, 9:29 PM
Greetings friends,

Happy New Year!

My break is almost over and I head back to Mississippi on Monday morning for the spring semester at Belhaven. I am both excited and weary of going back. I am feeling quite burnt out physically, spiritually, and emotionally right now. I do not feel much like dancing, or having the responsibilities of being a good student. I just want to continue to live simply and digest the last few months. A lot has happened...

This break has been a good time for me to lay low, but it has not been void of hardship. As I mentioned before, my Grandfather passed away on Thanksgiving morning this year... the process of mourning has been messy. My G-pa (as I affectionately called him) was the most gentle, and loving man I think I have ever known. Certainly the closest earthly father figure I have ever had. And I am really missing his presence here at the house right now. Even despite his struggling with Alzheimer's which kept him incapacitated most of the time. I miss his singing of old hymns, and his bear hugs. His smile was so precious. At meal times we would hold hands to pray. And he would always squeeze my hand, which was undeniably smaller than his, with steadfast reassurance that he was always there for me. His hands were always calloused from working... His garden is gone now. Left with him I suppose. *sigh*

I simply miss him.

Anyways, this may be the last journal I'll post for a while... Spring semester is a killer, so I know I will not have a ton of time to invest on here. Because of this I have added a large features portion and several dance videos for you to enjoy. My theme for the dance videos this time around is: Using the dance as a visual art. Oh, and I read this beautiful passage out of Hebrews 10 the other day after coming home from my friend's place New Year morning. It's down below...

Hebrews 10:1-10 and 19-25 ~ The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming---not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. Then I said, 'Here I am---it is written about me in the scroll---I have come to do your will, my God.' " First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them"---though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. ... Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another---and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
