The body is an amazing engine. It has been so elaborately designed that we are still figuring out how it works. For this reason there is much value found in the arts which utilize movement as the main vocabulary. Movement is common to each and every single soul, and each soul finds the body as home. This is why dance, physical theater, acrobatics, and other forms of movement capture the imagination in new and profound ways. The ability of a mover to encompass the abstract into a concrete idea makes it ever changing, yet something that any viewer (given the time) can come to understand.
Distressing Disguise: Stephen 2
MAN'S RELATIONSHIP WITH FELLOW MAN
At the end of the day, relationships are what matter. Relationships are the foundations of family, community, society, and culture... Relationships define us as individuals, as a people, and as a species unique to itself. Relationships govern the roles each of us play in life. The ways we interact through relationships sometimes forcefully molds us into becoming people we never thought we could be. Sometimes pushing us beyond what we ever thought was capable, sometimes ripping us to shreds and leaving us destitute and alone. For artists, it often is the driving force behind our work... It is our words physically manifested. It is our thoughts and desires represented in abstract form. It is speech at its finest. Relationships are about communication... and communication is about both saying and receiving. It is why art has the capacity to move minds and break hearts, and relate to other people of all kinds. Without relationships, we just are. And just being, is not necessarily living.
First Steps
MAN'S RELATIONSHIP TO NATURE
From the dust we came, and to the dust we will return. Man's relationship with nature is intricate and delicate... Our survival depends on our surroundings and how well we are able to cope within each environment. As every living entity, we rely on the air to fill our lungs. Without it, life would cease to be. We draw our nutrients from the earth by working the ground and by consuming the flesh of flora and fauna alike, constantly converting sugars and proteins to energy for life. We come together in sex, as male and female, an intimate act of affection and selflessness to bring new life into the world... a mystery to behold. Yet, we cower below the vastness of the sky and are at the mercy of the elements. Earth, air, fire and water exist to create and destroy, to create once again. Summer falls, and the dead of winter flourishes into spring... A day becomes a year, one generation dies, bringing a new one to subdue the earth again. This is the world we live in, and capturing even the smallest piece of it in a moment is worth all the while.

MAN'S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD
Artists are built to experience the world at a depth that the common man cannot. We give insight to the abstract, the spiritual, and the seemingly obvious. Art is a way to capture a piece of the sacred... that which is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. All while making it clear that not all is right in the world. It is a way that I, as a man, acknowledge that I am not the end of all things, but simply a vapor passing through history. But we do not end there, we challenge the individual and culture to move forward. We fight with an intense passion to get the every man to observe themselves and question, "What do I believe?" ... I have come to settle on this: I am an artist, called by Jehovah-Bara (LORD of Creation), to make work that shakes men to their foundation and opens their eyes to not just our physical world, not just the human experience, but the spiritual as well. I call any man who seeks to see, he who thirsts to drink, and he who cannot hear to listen... I point you to the only one who can fulfill those who are empty, make whole those who find that they are broken, and teach the meaning of love to those of us who have never seen it. His name is: Jesus.
The purpose of my work is to glorify the name of Jesus Christ. I also desire to challenge the church and the art world to further their search for quality artwork while directing them towards the Lord. It is my privilege to create work that speaks not only about God’s overwhelming goodness, but about the human experience, and the physical world around us.
In all of my work, whether it is a painting, photography, or dance choreography / performance the point is to take the viewer on a journey. This journey can be many things to many different people, but for me the journey is never to far away from reality. I believe that my work holds an emotional conviction that remains somewhat simplistic within the works complexity, and it is always genuine. The majority of my work focuses on seeing the world through a distorted point of view, a quality that resembles abstraction but is always seeking to be understood through careful use of structure. I find a great deal of pleasure in extremes and find that high contrasting colors, textures, and ideas translate emotional qualities extremely well. For example, in my paintings, drawings, and photographs, one would observe that I stick to monochromatic color schemes, usually black and white, or to the opposite extreme, bold opaque colors. I stray far away from translucent or even uses of color and texture. When it comes to choreography, in a similar fashion, my favorite qualities tend to be built upon extremes. The use of minimalist ideas like repetition, opposition, and juxtaposition allow an abstracted idea to find concreteness. In doing so, I find the ability to relate to an idea at a deeper level than even words could express. Getting to this raw emotional depth is where I find my work to be most satisfying.

I am so excited to find that we now have the ability to change our user names on here! I have wanted to change mine for a long time and have often thought about abandoning this account for a new one, but now I don't have to! Whoo-hoo! Thanks for making this new feature possible. You rock!
In other deviant related news I have been accepted to post films now on !!! Super excited as I will be continuing dance for camera explorations and projects throughout the summer and into next year! Keep your eyes peeled for new projects and collaborative opportunities!
Come To
SPEAKING OF WHICH, my good friend Brigette Marquardt (the dancer from my last collaborative project) is working on a benefit which will take place in the Houston, Texas area in July and has asked me to contribute another dance for camera piece. I would explain all the details myself, but she has already created a page via which explains the basic premise of the project:
I (Brigette) am putting together a benefit concert, an idea placed on my heart in order to help care for the huge population of orphans (resulting from AIDS and Malaria) in Malawi, one of the poorest nations in the world. I will personally take the funds next summer of 2013, when I go with a group called Project Take Love. I will be involved in the orphanage ministry, as there are hundreds of orphanages trying to care for the approximately 2 million orphans. I will prayerfully visit and serve in orphanages and ask God where the money should be given and/or distributed.
Concerning the concert, it will be similar to a variety show and will include dance, theatre, and music. Afterwards, there will be a reception. Everything is on a volunteer basis. I want God to use this event to do exceedingly and abundant things beyond all I could ask for. The ideal date I would like to have it on is Sat, July 21st, 2012 (however this date is still pending). There is still SO much work to be done before then, including that of securing a venue, of which I have been in the process for several weeks now. (I have also made this event part of my senior project.) In my mind I know that with God all things are possible, but I struggle with not losing heart. I need faith, diligence, efficiency, and accountability. If praying for me and this event is something you want to do, then please do. I cannot explain how deeply I appreciate it. But please do not feel obligated in any way. I trust that God will stir people as He wills for this event, and others for other concerns.
If you have joined (or in this case... read this), again I'd like you to be however involved as the Spirit would lead. If that is one prayer that only God knows about, I could not thank you enough, as I know God will bless your selflessness. It would be very encouraging if you want to post on this page any of the prayers you prayed, Scriptures, a mention of what you're praying for or just the fact that you prayed. There are no rules. So if you want to post a video of you singing a song, well shoot, that'd be great, too. Unless, perhaps, it's particularly depressing... ya know, then maybe just stick it on my regular wall.
Elements of the Event (things to pray for): Venue, flooring, technical crew, load in crew, house/box office crew, performers, designers, printing and marketing (including advertisement and promotional) needs, videographer and photographer, reception needs (set up, food, clean up), an audience (slightly essential), "thank you cards" to volunteers, and DEEP GOSPEL IMPACT through: performances, personal connection, especially via reception, donations and ministry to young children in Malawi who no longer have parents.
MAIN VERSE I HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR THE EVENT: Ephesians 3:20-21 - "Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
P. S. If, in addition to prayers, you feel compelled to help in another capacity, such as any of the elements listed above, putting a paid advertisement into the program, chronically inviting people, any other ideas you have, please contact me (Or visit her page here: [link]). Your help is welcomed & appreciated.
Psalm 85:11-12 - "Faithfulness springs up from the ground, and righteousness looks down from the sky. Yes, the LORD will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase."
I am also going back through all of my adjusting prices (further than the basic base prices), organizing them into series, and just trying to further myself as a visual artist. Here are some highlights:
I was more than surprised to find on Youtube the piece that I learned for our Spring Faculty concert Concentric Paths. Both Donald and myself were not supposed to be in this piece, but one of the performers received an injury and another had to leave. We learned this 14 minute piece in about two weeks. Yikes!
I also have finally been given a date for my dance trip later this summer (except the location has changed)! Now, Donald and I are off to California from August 6th through the 18th-ish! Super pumped!!! XD
wow. your works and your statements are inspiring.. i'm a Christian artist too and i hope my faith and my craft would someday be like yours... this world really needs people like you. keep up the good work!!!! )
